The International Guild of Realism had a wonderful weekend celebrating the opening of our 8th Annual Exhibition at the beautiful Tempe Center for the Arts in Tempe, Arizona. IGOR members enjoyed several events over a three day period with over 35 IGOR artists in attendance. The weather was sunny everyday and all events turned out as planned. The quality of the show was absolutely incredible and without a doubt, another astounding IGOR Annual Exhibition. The Tempe Center for the Arts was equally as thrilled with the quality of the show and they were grateful that so many IGOR artists attended the opening events. Numerous collectors attended both opening nights and several sales took place during the opening weekend of events!

IGOR added several formal events over a three-day period. On October 3rd, IGOR members met at the Scottsdale Artist School for a gourmet reception and a tour of their amazing art school. After our welcome meet and mingle, members toured the best galleries in downtown Scottsdale. This art walk was led by Charter Members, Donald Clapper and Vala Ola who both live in the Scottsdale area.

We had our busiest day on October 4th beginning with a five-hour art seminar with several noted guest speakers including Joshua Rose - Editor of American Art Collector magazine, Bill Rowett - Realism Art Collector, Leigh Ann Van Fossan - gallery coordinator in Beavercreek, CO. and Ed Copley - award-winning figurative painter. The seminar ended with an informative talk on "How to Land and Secure a Quality Gallery" by IGOR member, Camille Engel. The seminar was well attended with over 35 IGOR members and from all accounts, the members really enjoyed each of the speakers. It was wonderful to see so many IGOR members from around the world including Canada and all the way from Norway. Then at 5pm, we had a beautiful champagne toast in the gorgeous 201 lounge overlooking the Tempe Town Lake.

We ended our very long but amazing day on October 4th with our first ever VIP Private Opening Reception. It was very well attended and everyone dressed beautifully for this gala evening. Collectors and IGOR artists met in the lobby waiting patiently for the grand opening of our international exhibition. It was very exciting and when the doors swung opened, people started clapping and entered the TCA Gallery of Art on a red carpet. The gourmet food was provided by the award winning Santa Barbara catering company and drinks were flowing all night. This special evening was a perfect way to end our second day of art events!

The public opening was held on Saturday night, October 5th and was very well attended. Additional sales were made during the public opening!

IGOR has once again produced two videos concerning our 8th Annual Exhibition. For those of you who weren't able to attend or to be juried into the event, we hope that you will enjoy the video of the 8th Annual International Guild of Realism Exhibition.

These new IGOR videos have numerous still images plus video clips that were taken during the three days.

Publicity about our event was widely covered by local as well as national publications. Plus, as you already know, we had over 12 pages of publicity articles and ads in the American Art Collector magazine. Also, we had an excellent editorial and one full page Ad in SW Art magazine.

Many Thanks to Our Corporate Sponsors:

This important exhibition was unlike anything ever exhibited in the state of Arizona. This two month art exhibition also served to introduce A.S.U. students, as well as high school and grade school students to the art of realism. It is notable that realism art is unlike any other art form, in that it captures the innate beauty of varied forms and figures in their geometric and natural purity. Artworks from many living masters were among the over one hundred fully juried paintings. We were pleased to see so many people at both of the opening receptions.

The jury for this year's exhibition was handled by two international known jurors including, Ellen Murray Meissinger, the head of the Arizona State University painting department and acclaimed realism watercolor artist; and John DiTommaso, owner of several national realism galleries over a 40 year period across the western part of the United States. Once again we received an amazing array of superb entries and our jurors were quite impressed with the quality and creativity of the work entered. Thank you, IGOR artists for submitting such wonderful artwork.

Congratulations to All of the Award Winners!

We received several comments from attending IGOR members so have fun reading some of them:

"My head is still spinning after returning from Tempe, and the fabulous 3-day Gala! What an eye-opener for me. I have come home extremely motivated, and psyched about the possibility for the show next year. First of all, I want to personally thank IGOR for all the work and effort that went into this fabulous event. I have attended many dinner/award receptions for other art organizations, and none of them begin to compare with the IGOR event. That you planned the community opening while the artists were actually there to participate was fabulous. That it was a 3-day event gave us a chance to get to know other members, and I now have made some friends that I know I will continue to keep in touch with. Additionally, the lecture, seminar portion was most helpful."

— Betsy Kellum, IGOR attending member

"Thank you for a great event. I was really thrilled to be included in such a well curated exhibit with so many talented artists at Tempe's beautiful Art Center. The VIP event was wonderful and the champagne toast while watching the Tempe sunset was perfect. You went out of your way to make everything run well and for all of us artists to feel important. And by the way, the food was so delicious I am sure I made too many trips to the buffet!"

— C.K., IGOR attending member

"It was wonderful - my first big show and I can't wait until next year's show. I'm going to work very hard this year toward the show. Thank you again IGOR, for all the hard work and it was a very interesting/stimulating weekend. It was very nice meeting all the artists and making new friends"

— Pamela Mangelsdorf, IGOR attending member

"I just wanted to take a moment to thank you and the others involved for putting together such a great event this weekend. I really learned a lot and had a wonderful time visiting the Scottsdale scene as well as meeting so many great people and artists. Being a juried member of your organization is certainly an honor and something I am quite proud of. I'm already looking forward to submitting for next year's exhibition and hopefully being a part of that weekend as well. You'll certainly have your work cut out making it compare to last weekend!"

— George Ayers, IGOR attending member
